Core Components And Technical Classifications Of Drilling Equipment

May 18, 2026

Drilling equipment is mainly divided into four modules: rotary system, hoisting system, circulation system, and power system. The rotary system, centered on the drill rig's rotary table or top drive, provides power for the drill bit's rotation. The hoisting system uses components such as the traveling block and hook to operate the drill string. The circulation system relies on mud pumps to transport drilling fluid to the bottom of the well and carry cuttings back to the surface. The power system typically uses diesel engines or electric motors to provide energy for the entire system. Based on different application scenarios, drilling equipment can be further subdivided into land-based drilling rigs, offshore drilling rigs (such as semi-submersible/drill ships), and special environment drilling rigs (such as polar drilling rigs).
